The 10 Days Himalayan Passes Motorcycle Tour is designed for experienced riders seeking mountain roads, changing elevations and some of Bhutan’s most dramatic central landscapes.

Ride across Dochula toward Punakha, continue into Phobjikha and follow the road across Pele La toward historic Trongsa.

Cross Yotong La into Bumthang, Bhutan’s spiritual heartland, where ancient temples and peaceful valleys complete the overland riding experience.

DAY-BY-DAY JOURNEY

Your Himalayan Passes Itinerary

Pass crossings, riding routes and daily distances may be adjusted according to weather, road conditions, rider ability and local operational requirements.

RIDING ROUTE Paro → Thimphu → Dochula → Punakha → Phobjikha → Pele La → Trongsa → Yotong La → Bumthang → Paro
DAY 01 Arrival in Paro and Rider Briefing +
Meet your Evara Travel team at Paro International Airport. Complete the motorcycle introduction, safety briefing and equipment check before a familiarisation ride where conditions permit.
DAY 02 Tiger’s Nest Monastery Hike +
Hike through pine forest to Taktsang Monastery, dramatically positioned above Paro Valley. This non-riding day also allows time to adjust before the longer motorcycle route.
DAY 03 Ride from Paro to Thimphu +
Begin riding through the Paro and Wang Chhu river valleys. After arriving in Thimphu, visit the Buddha Dordenma and selected cultural landmarks.
DAY 04 Thimphu to Punakha via Dochula +
Ride the winding road through forests to Dochula Pass and stop at its 108 memorial chortens. Descend into the warmer Punakha Valley and visit Punakha Dzong.
DAY 05 Punakha to Phobjikha Valley +
Follow mountain roads through changing vegetation toward Phobjikha. Arrive in the glacial valley and visit Gangtey Monastery or nearby traditional villages.
DAY 06 Phobjikha to Trongsa via Pele La +
Ride across the high central road and Pele La Pass toward Trongsa. Enjoy views of deep valleys and forested mountains before visiting Trongsa Dzong after arrival.
DAY 07 Trongsa to Bumthang via Yotong La +
Climb through forests toward Yotong La and descend into Bumthang. The route passes traditional villages and beautiful central Bhutanese landscapes.
DAY 08 Bumthang Valley Cultural Ride +
Ride between Bumthang’s ancient temples, villages and rural valleys. Enjoy a more relaxed day exploring the region’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
DAY 09 Bumthang to Paro +
Return the motorcycle and take a scheduled domestic flight to Paro, subject to airline operations and weather. If the flight is unavailable, the itinerary will be adjusted.
DAY 10 Departure from Paro +
Transfer to Paro International Airport with assistance from your guide and depart Bhutan after riding across its great Himalayan passes and central valleys.

Essential Rider Information

Valid Licence

Riders must hold a valid motorcycle licence and any internationally recognised permit required for the tour.

Advanced Experience

Riders should be confident with repeated mountain bends, steep gradients and changing road surfaces.

Protective Equipment

A certified helmet, protective jacket, gloves, trousers and appropriate riding boots are strongly recommended.

High Altitude

Several passes are at significant elevation. Riding pace, hydration and rest stops will be carefully managed.

Mountain Weather

Fog, rain and cold conditions may develop quickly. Waterproof equipment and warm layers are essential.

Travel Insurance

Insurance should specifically cover motorcycle touring, medical treatment and emergency evacuation.
